Allyson Felix appointed to serve under President Obama - IAAF Online Diaries
Three-time World champion Allyson Felix looks ahead to President Barack Obama’s investiture with particular interest as she reveals she has been appointed on the Physical Fitness and Sports Council…
"Happy New Year everybody
"January is already off to a fast, busy and great start! I was officially appointed to be on the President's Physical Fitness and Sports Council, this is a great privilege and something that I really look forward to being a part of. I was nominated by President Bush and will get to serve under one of my own personal heroes President Barack Obama.
"The purpose of this council is to promote, encourage and motivate Americans of all ages to become physically active and participate in sports. I really can't wait to get involved and have a voice to help people live healthy and active lives. This appointment ties right in with one of my other off-the-track passions, Glisten (www.iglisten.net). I always mention Glisten because I believe it's a great free service for women who are trying to live healthier lifestyles.
"I'm also very excited to be the Grand Marshall of the city of Inglewood's annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. It is a very exciting time as Dr. King's dream continues to become more of a reality. I look forward to seeing the community come out to honour Dr. King. MLK is extremely important to me because of his tireless civil rights efforts and for his vision that continues to inspire me.
"I spent the holidays here at home in Santa Clarita, Calif. with my family, we had a great time. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to use the talent that God has blessed me with to the best of my ability this year. I also enjoyed going to the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day to watch my college, the USC Trojans, defeat Penn State.
"Training is progressing well. We are still working on our base but are slowly starting to speed things up. We put our spikes on for the first time this past week. I haven't made any decisions as to what events I will run this year but I'm continuing to work diligently on my base so that I will be ready when the time comes.
"It has been a tradition for me to run at Mt. SAC every year since my high school days, so I'm sure I will open up there in front of lots of family and friends.
"Until next time… Best wishes”
Allyson
